A darts society event held by Sheffield’s universities had to be cancelled after a series of fights broke out between crowd members.

South Yorkshire Police were called to the scene at the Octagon Centre on Clarkson Street, to reports of fighting heppening between people in the crowd at the 2017 Sheffield Dartsity event.

Eight matches were set to be played between competitors from both of Sheffield’s universities, University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam University.

It was during the sixth match that the event was called off as a result of the scrapping in the crowd.

At this point University of Sheffield were leading 4-1 before the fighting began.

Forge Sport, who were Tweeting live updates for the University of Sheffield’s Forge Press, posted a series of Tweets reporting on the situation.

Oliver Newall, a darts society commitee member has since tweeted a statement on behalf of the society about the incidents that happened.

South Yorkshire Police have been contacted for more information about the event.
